Our approach

We see the risk behind the insurance. A policy is an important instrument, but it is not the risk itself.

We look beyond the policy to understand the business, its operations, its dependencies, its exposures and the consequences of disruption or loss. A better understanding of risk leads to better decisions about what should be retained, what should be mitigated and what should be transferred.

Our perspective therefore begins before the insurance conversation and continues beyond the placement of the policy.

Our definition of risk

Risk is not simply the possibility of a loss. Risk is the possibility that uncertainty affects the achievement of what matters to an organisation — uncertainty arising from its people, assets, operations, contracts, suppliers, customers, environment, technology, capital or decisions. Insurance addresses some of the consequences; risk management begins by understanding the uncertainty itself.

Our definition of advice

Advice is not the presentation of options. It is the application of knowledge, experience and judgement to a client's particular circumstances. Our job is not to make the decision for the client. Our job is to make the client better equipped to make it.

A good adviser helps a client understand

  • what matters
  • what could go wrong
  • what the consequences could be
  • what choices are available
  • what those choices mean
  • where the responsibility ultimately sits

What we promise

  • We will listen before we advise.
  • We will ask difficult questions when they need to be asked.
  • We will explain complexity rather than hide behind it.
  • We will be commercially aware without compromising technical integrity.
  • And when something goes wrong, we will remain engaged.

Our promise is not that risk can be eliminated. It is that our clients should understand it better and be better prepared to make decisions about it.
